The world’s only Moomin Museum is an experiential art museum presenting original Moomin illustrations by the Finnish writer and artist Tove Jansson (1914–2001), rounded out by a selection of three-dimensional Moomin tableaux by the graphic artist Tuulikki Pietilä (1917–2009).
The Moomin Museum brings alive the wit, wisdom and exuberant spirit of Jansson’s books and illustrations. The permanent exhibition, Guess What Happens Next?, recounts the entire story of the Moomins from the great flood all the way to the mysterious disappearance of the Moomin family one grey November. The Moomin Museum is a must-see for all art lovers and Moomin fans of all ages.
The Tampere Art Museum Moominvalley Collection was on display in temporary venues in Tampere for three decades. Now it finally has a permanent home in a fresh, contemporary venue at Tampere Hall. Its name is now officially the Moomin Museum.
Tampere Hall offers a variety of attractions for a whole-day excursion. After a visit to the Moomin Museum, pop in at the museum’s Reading Room, where you can browse Moomin titles in over 30 languages. Check out the superb range of Moomin souvenirs, music and design at the Tampere Hall Shop, followed by lunch or dinner at Tuhto, Tampere Hall’s inviting in-house restaurant. Special Moomin-themed packages are available for groups complete with meals, accommodation and fun guided tours of the museum.
We hope to see you soon!
