Parkano, in the northern part of the Tampere region, is a hub of road, rail, and IT connections. The town is also known for its vehicle and spare part production, spare parts trade, transport contracting, and – especially – numerous vehicle enthusiasts.
The Automobile Museum project, long under planning, was realised in 2009 with the opening of a new special museum. The museum is located in historical, surroundings beside the rapids, in an old wood processing factory. The area has inspired engineering technology since the 1830s. Also, millennia ago, the Kyrönkangas winter road ran through what is now the factory yard.
The Automobile Museum hosts an extensive exhibition on vehicles, a repair and work demonstration space and archives. Themed exhibitions change yearly. The Automobile Museum is run by Classic & Vintage Vehicle Enthusiasts of Parkano Region
